Modest Mouse’s early albums were rugged, rough pieces filled with winding guitar hooks, occasional dissonant vocal explosions, and a vast, major movement rhythm section, but the band has become more and more rough in recent years. When there are little people out there, you’ll want to find a way to keep them innocent and not make this world look like the apocalyptic Cormac McCarthy novel.

The world is always shit and acts as a disastrous reminder that it won’t improve unless humans change radically. Given the times we live in, the latest Modest Mouse albums may seem to represent the same thing.
